disable vSync usually the cause of it,

if using nvidia disable vSync in nvidia control panel

disable any in game overlays

change power options to high performance

lastly disable full screen optimizations use window borderless

Seconding what Scrappy said. When you get inexplicable vsync-like issues it's always one of the three: power mode, win10 shenanigans, gpu driver options.

This is hella strange. Yesterday i turned v sync off in nvidea panel and it worked fine. Today again the fps was locked at 30 even if v sync is off in the panel.
Any ideas?

So I may just be an idiot here, but with my laptop, every game caps at 30 fps if it's not charging. As soon as I plug it in, every game runs at 60+ fps.

Nvidia control panel sounds bugged to me
Uninstall drivers and reinstall the drivers
Might fix the problem

As far as I know, It's done so your battery doesn't get damaged. I recommend you play on your laptop when it's plugged in, and avoid playing when it's not. If you insist, I'm sure there is an option somewhere to turn the fps cap off, but it may not be beneficial for your laptop in the long run.

so cant you just play with laptop plugged in and battery removed so it doesn't damage the battery ?
