Logitech g502 Proteus Core

The mouse I'm currently using is a beast made by logitech : The g502 Proteus Core. It's the big brother of the G500 and G500s which are huge reference among the logitech fans and all the gamers. This time, they added some interesting new features.

Look and ergonomy :

It has a weird look, uncommon for mice. The look is really aggressive and reminds the curves of a race car.

This mouse is mainly made with plastic but the scroll wheel is made of aluminum. There is the classic Logitech G logo => It's the only blue part with the 3 bars and the small line on the bottom. It's weird as the main logitech's color is blue.

The G502 is powered by a really solid braided cable which is really flexible and pratical.

The basic weight is 121g but they give a small box with 5 loads of 3,6g each ; 139g in total. But in my opinion (it's really personal), the basic weight is perfect. Under the mouse, you have 6 plastic skates which make the mouse slide on any surfaces ; the only problem is that they break away easily.

There are 10 buttons in total ; => 3 for the thumn

=> 6 for the index (with the wheel+2 middle buttons)

=> 1 for the middle finger

They're really precise and nicely placed for maximal ergonomy.

Every button is configurable (via the Logitech Gaming Software) : You can use them for simple functions, macros or shortcuts.

The button right under the scroll wheel is used to changed the scroll mode : There are 2 : serrated and free run. In serrated, the scroll is precise and tough. The free run one allows you to disengage the wheel to get a released scroll => This mode has a big problem : Sometimes it's hard to stabilize the wheel and you get unwanted scroll.

This mouse isn't made for big hands. You might get bothered because you don't have a good grip and a practical access to the G buttons.

Precision :

The G502 has a basic refreshing rate of a 1000 Hz (The mouse gives its position every millisecond to the computer). It makes it really precise, that's a must for all gamers.

The sensor goes up to 12000 dpi. Let's be honest, it's completly useless but I tested it and you can still be precised even with such an high sensitivity. (fun fact : it has a max acceleration of 7,6 m/sec)

The sensor can be (via the software) adapted to the surface you're using, that's great to get a full precision.

The logitech gaming software permits you to changed the refreshing rate of the mouse, the sensitivity and the buttons assignments.

Pros :

- The detachable wheel
- Nice grip
- Easy and complete software

Cons :
- Problem with the wheel
- Not good for big hands

There is a spectrum version of this mouse. It simply adds a 16,8 million color feature to the mouse but there are only a few illuminated spots so it's completly useless.

===> The G502 cost 80 euros when I bought but now you can find it for 50 euros on amazon. It's totally worth it, one of the best mouse out there.

Ps : Sorry for the english faults.

Top mouse Acea.

Bought it a few black friday sales ago, I have to say it's a great mouse!!!

Works brilliantly even wth Macs :P

Love the instant dpi changing,  both great for my design work and of course gaming.

My only criticism is I need a few more weights to add, other than that would definitely recommend.

I know that some people like to use their mouse with full hand = Their whole hand is on the mouse. It's not my case = my hand is a bit retracted. If I use the G502 in full hand, my fingers are almost overshooting the clicks, that's not good. It's not practical and comfortable to have one end of your finger overshooting the mouse. I have small hands so someone with big hands should be bothered by this.
